How Much Should You Sell Candied Nuts For? (2026 Pricing Guide)

The short version: Sell homemade candied nuts for about $7 a 4-ounce bag, and price the half pound by the nut: $14 for pecans, $12 for walnuts and $11 for almonds. A 1-pound gift tin runs $30 to $36. Three small shops we checked charged $9.99 to $15.99 for a single 8-ounce bag of candied nuts, and the 11 shops that sell bags charged 70 cents to $2 an ounce. One batch made from a pound of pecans costs about $13.43 in store-brand ingredients, and the pecans are about 97% of that, so the nut you pick sets your price far more than the sugar does.

Checked on each shop's own website and on Walmart.com, October 9, 2026: nut prices move, so recheck before the holidays. Homegrown fees come from its signup page the same day; customers create a Homegrown account to place a first order, and there is no drop or countdown release feature.

Your neighbor brought a tin of your cinnamon sugar pecans to her office, and now four people want a bag for the holidays. You know they are good. What you do not know is whether $10 is fair, too cheap, or more than anyone will pay for nuts.

Candied nuts are one of the easiest candies to price, because the recipe has six ingredients and every one has a shelf price. This guide does that math with numbers loaded on October 9, 2026: what 12 small candied nut makers charge, what candied pecans cost at Walmart, what one batch costs you with pecans, walnuts and almonds, what pouches and tins add, and what card fees take from a $14 bag. Then it turns those numbers into a price list you can print for your table.

How Much Should You Charge for a Bag of Candied Nuts?

Charge $7 for a 4-ounce bag of any candied nut, then $14 for a half pound of candied pecans, $12 for walnuts and $11 for almonds. Those half-pound prices run about 1.7 to 1.8 times your full cost, including your time, and each one sits inside the $9.99 to $15.99 range that small shops charged for a single 8-ounce bag on October 9, 2026. A pound in a gift tin should sell for $30 to $36, because the tin alone costs you about $8.40.

Here is the ladder to start from:

Scroll sideways to see all three nuts.

SizePecans: your full costPecans: priceWalnuts: your full costWalnuts: priceAlmonds: your full costAlmonds: priceWhat small shops charged
4 oz bag$4.31$7$3.73$7$3.31$7$5.99 to $7.00
8 oz bag (half pound)$8.14$14$6.99$12$6.15$11$9.99 to $15.99, or $7 a bag in a 4-pack
1 lb gift tin$23.79$36$21.49$32$19.81$30$29.95 for 1 lb, $24.95 to $24.99 for 8 oz tins

Full cost is ingredients, the pouch or tin, a label and $20 an hour for your hands-on time, from the cost tables later in this guide. It leaves out booth fees, oven electricity and the bags you open for samples, which is part of why the prices sit 1.5 to 2.1 times above it. Ingredient and packaging prices come from Walmart.com on October 9, 2026. Shop prices come from each shop's own website the same day.

A few things push you up or down that ladder:

  • Your nut. A pound of store-brand pecans costs $12.97 and a pound of almonds about $7.75 at the 14-ounce bag's price, so the same recipe costs you about $5 more as pecans.
  • Your bag size. Small bags usually cost more per ounce, because the pouch and label cost the same on 4 ounces as on 8.
  • Your package. The same 8 ounces of cinnamon pecans is $15.99 in a bag and $24.99 in a tin at Killer Pecans, which the packaging section below explains.
  • Your flavor. Bourbon, maple or chili versions read as a gift, which supports a dollar or two more on the same size.

If you sell brittle, fudge or toffee next to your nuts, the candy pricing guide runs the same kind of math across the whole candy table. And if you are still checking whether your state lets you sell candy from a home kitchen, start with whether you can sell homemade candy before you buy five pounds of pecans.

What Are Small Candied Nut Makers Charging Right Now?

The 12 small candied nut makers we checked on October 9, 2026 charged 70 cents to $2.00 an ounce for bags, and $1.25 to $3.12 an ounce in tins and cans. Price per ounce is the fair way to compare them, because shops sell everything from a 4-ounce bag to a 3-pound bag.

Source: each shop's own website, October 9, 2026, the smallest everyday bag from each listing above (Oliver Pecan Company shown at two sizes). Bar widths are each price divided by $2.00.

Three patterns stand out:

  • The half pound is the common gift size. Three shops sell a single 8-ounce bag, at $9.99, $11.99 and $15.99, and A Lil Bit of Sweetness sells four 8-ounce bags for $28.00, or $7 a bag. The middle of the three single bags is $11.99.
  • Small bags cost more per ounce. Oliver Pecan Company charges $1.50 an ounce for 4 ounces and 98 cents an ounce for its 3-pound bag of the same pecans.
  • A tin adds about $9 to the same 8 ounces. Killer Pecans charges $15.99 for 8 ounces of cinnamon pecans in a bag and $24.99 in a tin, and American Spoon's 8-ounce can is $24.95. That is about $3.12 an ounce in a tin against $2.00 in Killer's bag.

The three cheapest prices on the list come from a ranch that grows its own almonds, a four-bag bundle and a 3-pound bag from a pecan grower. A home vendor buying pecans at the grocery store is not going to match 70 cents an ounce once their time is paid, and does not need to.

Why Does a Bag of Candied Pecans Cost More Than Almonds?

Candied pecans cost more because pecans cost more: on October 9, 2026, Great Value pecan halves were 81.1 cents an ounce in a 1-pound bag, walnuts were 62.3 cents and whole almonds 48.4 cents. The sugar coating costs the same no matter which nut is under it.

Here is what a pound of each nut cost on Walmart.com that day:

  • Pecan halves: $12.97 for 16 ounces, or $22.27 for 32 ounces (69.6 cents an ounce)
  • Walnut halves and pieces: $9.96 for 16 ounces (62.3 cents an ounce)
  • Whole natural almonds: $6.78 for 14 ounces (48.4 cents an ounce), about $7.75 for a full pound at that rate
  • Pecan halves, small bag: $7.14 for 8 ounces (89.3 cents an ounce)

That last line matters. If you price your bags from the little 8-ounce bag you bought for a test batch, your pecan cost runs 28% higher than it would from the 32-ounce bag. Price from the bag you will actually buy once you are selling.

The same logic shows up in the trail mix pricing guide, where a pecan blend costs nearly twice what a peanut blend does before the bag. With candied nuts, the effect is even bigger, because the nut is almost the whole recipe.

What Does One Batch of Candied Nuts Cost You to Make?

One batch of candied pecans made from a pound of nuts costs about $13.43 in store-brand ingredients, or 64 cents an ounce of finished nuts. The same recipe costs $10.42 with walnuts and $8.21 with almonds, using Walmart.com prices from October 9, 2026.

The recipe is Allrecipes' Candied Pecans: 1 cup white sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, a quarter teaspoon of salt, 1 large egg white, 1 tablespoon of water and 1 pound of pecan halves, baked at 250°F. We used the same recipe for walnuts and almonds, swapping the nut pound for pound.

Swipe left for the walnut and almond batches.

Prices are Great Value products on Walmart.com, checked October 9, 2026. The 21-ounce yield is our estimate: a pound of nuts plus most of the cup of sugar, less the sugar that stays on the pan and the water that bakes off. Weigh your own first batch and use your number. Each ingredient row is rounded to the cent, and the batch totals add the unrounded amounts, so the rows as shown add to one cent more than each total. Sugar was on sale that day; at its $3.27 regular price the cup costs about 36 cents, which adds about 8 cents to each batch.

Those per-ounce numbers are what one bag of nuts costs you before the pouch: about $5.12 for 8 ounces of pecans, $3.97 for walnuts and $3.13 for almonds.

Is the Sugar or the Nut the Bigger Cost?

The nut is the bigger cost by a mile: pecans are about 97% of a candied pecan batch's ingredient cost, walnuts about 96% and almonds about 94%. The cup of sugar, the egg white, the cinnamon and the salt together cost about 46 cents a batch.

That changes how you should think about price changes. A sugar price jump barely touches your bag. A $2 jump in a pound of pecans moves your batch cost by $2, which is about 76 cents on every 8-ounce bag.

Watch out

Nut prices move between restocks and between bag sizes. On October 9, 2026, Great Value pecan halves ran 89.3 cents an ounce in the 8-ounce bag and 69.6 cents in the 32-ounce bag. Re-run your batch cost every time a receipt for nuts comes in higher than the last one, and price from your real receipts, not from a sale you caught once.

Vendor tip

Buy pecans in the biggest bag you can use before they go stale. Moving from the 16-ounce bag to the 32-ounce bag saves about $1.84 a batch, which is about 70 cents on every 8-ounce bag you sell. Keep the open bag in the freezer between batches.

Can You Compete With Candied Pecans From the Grocery Store?

You cannot beat grocery candied pecans on price once your time counts, and you should not try. On October 9, 2026, Walmart's bettergoods Praline Pecans cost 76.8 cents an ounce. Your own candied pecans cost about 64 cents an ounce in ingredients and 70 cents bagged and labeled, but about $1.02 an ounce once you pay yourself $20 an hour.

Prices from Walmart.com search results on October 9, 2026. The Orchard Valley per-ounce figure is $19.95 divided by 24 ounces.

The grocery shelf runs from 76.8 cents to $2.00 an ounce, and your $14 half pound of pecans works out to $1.75. That puts you above most store bags and below Emerald's 5-ounce bag. Your customer is not buying the cheapest pecans in town. They are buying a fresh batch made by someone they know, in a flavor the store does not carry, often as a gift.

What Do Pouches, Labels and Gift Tins Add?

A stand-up pouch and a printed label add about 48 cents to a bag of candied nuts, and a round gift tin adds about $8.40 before the label. Those are Walmart.com prices from October 9, 2026, bought in packs of 50 pouches, 120 labels and 3 tins.

Prices from Walmart.com search results on October 9, 2026. Pouch sizes are the seller's own size names. Fill and weigh one test bag before you order a case.

Check the fit before you buy. A pound of pecan halves is about 4 cups, so 8 ounces of finished candied pecans is roughly 2 cups, which fits a 7 by 10 by 3 inch pouch with room to seal. The 7 by 3.2 inch tin holds about 123 cubic inches, or about 8½ cups, so a pound fits with room for tissue paper.

The tin is where pricing goes wrong. At $8.40, the tin costs more than the pound of almonds inside it. That is why the 1-pound tin in the ladder above sells for $30 to $36 rather than twice the 8-ounce bag price. Killer Pecans charges $9 more for a tin than a bag of the same 8 ounces, and that gap is the honest price of the packaging plus the gift.

How Long Does a Batch Take, and What Is Your Hour Worth?

One batch of candied nuts bakes for 40 to 60 minutes at 250°F, but most of that is oven time. Allrecipes has you bake for 10 minutes, then stir every 10 to 15 minutes for another 30 to 50 minutes until the nuts are evenly browned.

Your hands-on time is the mixing, the stirring, breaking up the cooled nuts, and weighing and sealing the bags. This guide assumes about 40 minutes of hands-on work for two pans baked at the same time, which is 2 pounds of nuts and about 42 ounces of finished candied nuts. Time your own first two batches with a phone timer and use your number.

At $20 an hour, those 40 minutes cost $13.33, or about 32 cents for every ounce you sell. That adds:

  • $1.27 to a 4-ounce bag
  • $2.54 to an 8-ounce bag
  • $5.08 to a 1-pound tin
Vendor tip

Always bake two pans at once. The stirring takes the same few minutes whether one pan or two is in the oven, so the second pan cuts your labor per bag. At $14 a bag, the 5¼ half-pound bags from two pans of pecans leave about $40 after ingredients, packaging and card fees, for about 40 minutes of hands-on work.

How Do You Turn Your Costs Into a Candied Nut Price?

Add your ingredients, packaging and time for one bag, multiply by about 1.7 to 2.1, then check the result against what small shops charge for the same size. That is how the half pounds and the walnut and almond 4-ounce bags in the ladder at the top of this guide were priced. The 4-ounce pecan bag is held at $7, about 1.6 times its $4.31 full cost, so it stays inside the $5.99 to $7.00 that shops charged for 4 ounces. The gift tins land closer to 1.5 times full cost, because they mark up the nuts, label and time about 1.8 to 1.9 times and add the $8.40 tin at what it cost you.

  • Cost one batch. Price the pound of nuts you will really buy, plus about 46 cents for the sugar, egg white, cinnamon and salt. Pecans came to $13.43 on October 9, 2026.
  • Weigh what comes out. Divide the batch cost by the finished ounces. A 21-ounce pecan batch is 64 cents an ounce.
  • Cost one bag. Multiply by the bag weight and add the pouch and label: 8 ounces of pecans is $5.12 plus 48 cents, or $5.60.
  • Add your time. At 32 cents an ounce, an 8-ounce bag carries $2.54 of labor, for a full cost of $8.14.
  • Multiply and round. 1.7 times $8.14 is $13.84. Round to $14.
  • Check the shops. $14 sits inside the $9.99 to $15.99 range for single 8-ounce bags. If your number lands above the top of the range, look at your nut cost first, then your bag size.

Why 1.7 and not 3? Tripling the full cost of an 8-ounce pecan bag gives $24.42, about the $24.95 American Spoon charges for 8 ounces in a gift can. Doubling the full cost gives $16.28, just over the highest 8-ounce bag price we found, $15.99 at Killer Pecans. For a wider look at multipliers across other products, the guide to pricing food at a farmers market walks through the 2x to 3x multiplier.

Who Is Selling Candied Nuts on Homegrown Right Now?

Two vendors sell candied nuts on Homegrown today. Thomas Family Farm in Lower Lake, California, lists Candied Nuts at $7.00 in walnut, cashew or pecan, and its description says "We use Demerara Raw Sugar" and "6oz". That is about $1.17 an ounce. Kickimor Kitchens lists Bourbon Candied Pecans at $5.00, made with bourbon, brown sugar and spices, with no weight in the listing.

From Homegrown's own catalog

In a pull of the Homegrown catalog on October 9, 2026, 2 of the 2,916 products listed by 313 vendors were standalone candied nuts. One more was a pecan praline (Kickimor Kitchens, $5.00 for a 2-praline pack) and one was a peanut brittle (Divine Destiny Desserts, $20 for an 8x8 pan). We searched every listing's name and description for a nut word, from pecan and walnut to praline and trail mix, read all 277 matches, and opened both candied nut vendors' full shops. The closest thing to candied nuts beyond those two is Health Nutz LLC's six seasoned nut trail mixes at $5 to $6, four of them made with honey. Five more listings sell nuts on their own, in a mix or in a candy: two other trail mixes, KairosGO's half-pound bag of shelled pecans at $8.25, Dolce Farm & Orchards' roasted hazelnuts at $10.00 and Deal Family Creations' salted almond toffee at $13.00. The other 262 used nuts in baked goods, granola, fudge, other candy, pet treats or a meal, named nuts only in an allergen warning, or were not nut foods at all, such as a body scrub made with sweet almond oil or coffee with roasted almond tasting notes.

Phone screenshot of the Thomas Family Farm storefront on Homegrown, showing focaccia bread at $10.00, chicken eggs at $6.00, quail eggs from $8.00, a daily harvest box at $10.00, Candied Nuts from $7.00 and 5 Herb Salt from $5.00
Thomas Family Farm on Homegrown, seen on a phone: Focaccia bread $10.00, Chicken eggs $6.00, Quail Eggs $8.00+, Daily Harvest $10.00, Candied Nuts $7.00+ and 5 Herb Salt $5.00+. The plus sign means the listing has options to choose from, and the mileage is the distance from where the page was loaded. Captured October 9, 2026.

Thomas Family Farm sells its candied nuts next to eggs, focaccia, herb salt and chili oil, with pickup at the farm and at the Clearlake Certified Farmers Market, and delivery within 20 miles. Its $7.00 for 6 ounces gives more nuts for the money than the $7 4-ounce bag in this guide's ladder. One price for all three nuts keeps its menu simple, but it means the pecan option earns less than the walnut option, because pecans cost more to buy.

Can You Make Candied Nuts at Home and Sell Them?

In Michigan, yes: its list names coated nuts outright. California's list allows roasted nuts and chocolate-covered nuts but does not name candied nuts, so ask your local environmental health department before you sell them there. Every state writes its own list, so check yours before your first sale. Those two lists and one federal labeling rule show what to look for.

In California, the Department of Public Health's Approved Cottage Foods List (last reviewed April 2026, loaded October 9, 2026) has a "Nuts, Nut Mixes, and Nut Butters" category that says "Only roasted/pasteurized nuts are allowed." Its candy category lists brittles, toffee and chocolate-covered nonperishables, including nuts.

In Michigan, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development's list of what cottage food operators can make allows "Coated or uncoated nuts" (loaded October 9, 2026). The same page says no confections that contain alcohol: rum flavoring is allowed, but rum extract and real rum are not.

Watch out

A bourbon glaze can be the problem flavor. Michigan does not allow cottage food confections that contain alcohol, so a glaze made with real bourbon or bourbon extract is out there, while a bourbon flavoring is allowed. Rules vary by state and change, so verify your state's current rules before you sell any flavor made with alcohol.

Plan on naming the allergens on your label, and check your state's cottage food label rules for the rest of what it needs. The FDA's food allergy page says federal allergen labeling covers food that is packaged and labeled for sale, though not food wrapped up after a customer orders it at the counter. It lists tree nuts, peanuts and eggs among the 9 major food allergens, and says the type of tree nut must be named, using "almonds, pecans, walnuts" as its examples. For a classic candied nut, that means the nut by name plus egg, because the coating is glued on with egg white. A "Contains pecans, egg" line is the simplest way to do it. The big 9 allergen labeling guide covers the rest of the label.

How Does a One-Week Shelf Life Change Your Price?

A one-week shelf life means every bag you bake without an order is a bag you may be paying to throw out. Allrecipes says to store its candied pecans in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week, or in the refrigerator for up to three weeks, and they freeze for up to two months.

Some shops list longer dates. Amy's Ice Creams says its 8-ounce candied pecans are best enjoyed within 1 month, and Nashville Spice Company lists a 6 to 12 month shelf life for its cinnamon roasted almonds. Those come from their own recipes and packaging, so test yours before you print a date on the bag.

Here is what that shelf life means for your pricing:

  • An unsold bag costs real money. Each leftover 8-ounce bag of pecans is $5.60 in nuts, sugar, pouch and label, plus your time.
  • Baking to orders protects your margin. If you know you have 30 bags sold, you bake 30 bags, not 45 and a hope.
  • Holiday batches can start early in the freezer. If you freeze nuts for up to two months as Allrecipes describes, label your bags on the day you take them out, not the day you baked.
  • Smaller weekly batches beat one big batch. Two pans a week at a Saturday market keeps every bag inside its one-week window.

What Do Ordering Fees Take From a $14 Bag of Candied Nuts?

On a $14 bag, card processing alone takes about 71 cents on Homegrown, Hotplate and Shopify, and Etsy takes about $1.78 once its listing, transaction and processing fees are added. Over 40 bags a month, your cost runs from about $28 to about $78 depending on the platform and who pays the fee.

We checked these fees on each company's own pricing page on October 9, 2026: findhomegrown.com/signup, hotplate.com/pricing, etsy.com/legal/fees and Etsy's payment processing help page, Square's fee help article, and shopify.com/pricing. Etsy's fees also apply to shipping, which this table leaves out. Hotplate processing is figured on the $14 bag price.

Watch out

Hotplate's pricing page says you can pay its fee yourself or pass it to customers, "your choice." Its own post "What Hotplate does" says the default is "we charge a fee to your customer" and that "80% of Hotplate chefs keep the default as-is." On a $14 bag that default adds $1.25 at checkout, so your customer pays $15.25, and you still pay the 2.9% + $0.30 card processing either way.

Square's Free plan takes 76 cents a bag on online orders, 5 cents more than Homegrown's card fee, but with no subscription its 40-bag month comes to $30.48, about $7.76 less than Homegrown's $38.24. Etsy reaches shoppers you do not know, but a $14 bag of nuts with shipping on top is a hard sell against a $7.68 grocery bag.

Bake Only the Bags Your Customers Already Paid For

Homemade candied nuts like the Allrecipes batch keep about a week on the counter, so the price on your bag only holds if you bake what is already sold. Homegrown is $10 per month billed annually, with no percentage fees beyond standard payment processing, and it gives you a storefront where regulars pick pecans, walnuts or almonds, choose a 4-ounce bag, a half pound or a gift tin, and pay before your baking day.

Here is how that fits the numbers in this guide:

  • Each size is its own option with its own price, the way Thomas Family Farm lists walnut, cashew and pecan under one product, so your $7, $14 and $36 ladder reads the same online as on your table.
  • Orders come with a pickup window or local delivery, so you know on Wednesday how many pans to bake for Saturday.
  • Customers pay when they order, so a holiday tin is paid for before you spend $8.40 on the tin.
  • Card processing is 2.9% + $0.30, paid by you, which is 71 cents on a $14 bag, against $1.78 on Etsy or $1.96 when you pay Hotplate's fee yourself.

What it does not do: there is no timed drop or countdown release, and no price-by-the-pound option (that is on the roadmap, not live), so you list fixed sizes. Customers create a Homegrown account to place their first order. Your storefront is listed on the Homegrown marketplace, but plan on most orders coming from people you send to your own link. If a pre-order page for your next batch sounds easier than a week of texts, set up your Homegrown storefront and list your first candied nut in three sizes tonight.

What Does a Month of 40 Half-Pound Bags Leave You?

Forty 8-ounce bags of candied pecans at $14 bring in $560 a month and leave about $298 after ingredients, packaging and Homegrown's fees, or about $196 after paying yourself $20 an hour. That assumes store-brand pecans bought by the pound on October 9, 2026.

Here is the math:

  1. Sales: 40 bags x $14 = $560.00
  2. Ingredients: 320 ounces of finished pecans at 64 cents = $204.70, which is about 15¼ batches
  3. Pouches and labels: 40 x 48 cents = $19.18
  4. Homegrown: $10 plan plus 40 x 71 cents in card processing = $38.24
  5. Left before labor: $297.88
  6. Your time: about 5 hours of hands-on work at $20 = $101.59
  7. Left after labor: $196.29

The same month in almonds at $11 a bag brings in $440 and leaves $260.93 before labor, or $159.34 after. Almonds are cheaper to make, but pecans at $14 leave you about $37 more for the same five hours. That is the case for pricing by the nut instead of charging one price for every bag.

Which Candied Nut Pricing Mistakes Cost You the Most?

The costliest mistake is charging one price for every nut, because a $12 pecan bag earns you about $2 less than a $12 almond bag: the pecan bag costs $8.14 to make and the almond bag $6.15. These are the others that shrink a candied nut margin:

  • Pricing from the test bag. The 8-ounce bag of pecans costs 89.3 cents an ounce, and the 32-ounce bag costs 69.6 cents.
  • Leaving out your time. Stirring every 10 to 15 minutes for most of an hour is real work, and it adds $2.54 to every half-pound bag at $20 an hour.
  • Selling tins at bag prices. The tin costs $8.40 before a single nut goes in.
  • Matching the grocery store. Store praline pecans cost 76.8 cents an ounce, under the $1.02 an ounce your own bagged pecans cost once you pay yourself $20 an hour.
  • Baking a week ahead with no orders. A one-week shelf life turns unsold bags into a loss of $5.60 each in materials.
  • Underfilling or overfilling bags. Tare your scale with the empty pouch and fill to 8 ounces. Half an ounce over on every pecan bag gives away about 32 cents of ingredients each time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much should I charge for candied pecans per pound?

Candied pecans in 8-ounce bags at $14 work out to $28 a pound, and a 1-pound tin of them should sell for about $36. Small shops we checked on October 9, 2026 charged $17 to $20 for a pound bag of cinnamon roasted nuts and $29.95 for a pound of glazed pecans in a gift tin from a Texas pecan grower. Price your own pecans from your batch cost first, then check where you land.

How much does it cost to make candied pecans at home?

A batch made from 1 pound of pecan halves runs about $13.43 for store-brand ingredients at Walmart.com prices on October 9, 2026, and makes about 21 ounces. That is about 64 cents an ounce before packaging. The pecans are $12.97 of that, and the sugar, egg white, cinnamon and salt together cost about 46 cents.

How much should I charge for cinnamon roasted almonds?

Charge about $7 for 4 ounces of cinnamon roasted almonds and $11 for a half pound. Almonds cost about 48 cents an ounce at Walmart.com on October 9, 2026, so a half-pound bag costs you about $6.15 including the pouch, label and your time. Small shops charged $6 to $7 for 4 ounces of cinnamon almonds and $17 to $20 for a pound the same day.

What profit margin should I expect on candied nuts?

At $14, a half-pound bag of candied pecans leaves about $5.15 after ingredients, packaging, $2.54 for your time and a 71-cent card fee. That is about 37% of the price. Almonds at $11 leave about $4.23, or about 38%, a slightly higher share on a lower price. When you set how much to charge for candied nuts, check both the share and the dollars.

Are candied nuts allowed under cottage food laws?

In Michigan, yes: it allows "coated or uncoated nuts" but not confections made with alcohol. California's Approved Cottage Foods List allows roasted or pasteurized nuts and lists chocolate-covered nuts under candy, but it does not name candied nuts, so ask your local environmental health department first. Check your own state's list and verify your state's current rules before you sell.

Should candied walnuts cost less than candied pecans?

Yes, by about $2 a half pound. Walnuts cost 62.3 cents an ounce and pecans 81.1 cents in 1-pound Great Value bags on October 9, 2026, so an 8-ounce bag of candied walnuts costs you about $1.15 less to make. Pricing candied nuts by the nut keeps your margin even across the table.

These guides cover the rest of the candy table, the gift packaging and the label that goes on every bag. Each one prices its product with the same kind of dated shelf and shop numbers used here:

Put Your Candied Nut Price List Where Customers Can Order

A price sign on your table only works while you are standing next to it. Between markets, the questions come by text: which nuts you have this week, whether the pecans have egg in the coating, and whether you can do a tin for an office gift. A Homegrown storefront answers all three on one page for $10 a month billed annually ($12.50 month to month), with no commission on your bags and 2.9% + $0.30 card processing paid by you. If you are ready to sell what you bake before you bake it, start your Homegrown storefront and post your pecan, walnut and almond prices this week. Put the 4-ounce bag, the half pound and the gift tin up as three options, each with its own price, and send the link to the people who asked for a bag last year. Then bake to the order list on Friday instead of guessing on Thursday night.
