Want to know some interesting info about wheatgrass? It's a grass, grown from the same seeds used to bake bread. Wheatgrass growers usually use hard red winter wheat berries (which are not actual berries, but look like little tan colored seeds), whereas bread makers use those as well as other varieties such as soft white winter wheat and spring wheat berries, for example, depending on the type of bread they are making. Before a loaf makes it to becoming something that encases your turkey sandwich, or before it becomes part of the substance you mix in a bowl for pancakes, the wheat berries are milled (ground) into flour and the remainder of the processes, such as adding salt, yeast, water etc, are completed.
Wheatgrass growers do not mill the berries. They're usually soaked for a day or so in order for the berries to sprout, then planted in a tray with some soil and watered for the next week.
