🏵️ Pride of Barbados Seeds (6"-8" tall), Caesalpinia pulcherrima Also Known As: Red Bird of Paradise • Peacock Flower • Dwarf Poinciana • Barbados Pride • Barbados Flower Fence • Flower Fence • Paradise Flower • Spanish Carnation Pride of Barbados (Caesalpinia pulcherrima) is a stunning tropical shrub prized for its brilliant clusters of fiery orange, red, and yellow flowers that bloom continuously from late spring through fall. Its finely divided, fern-like foliage creates an attractive backdrop for the colorful blossoms, making it a favorite for pollinator gardens, borders, and sunny landscapes. Butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds are frequent visitors, adding even more life and color to the garden throughout the growing season. Recognized on the "Texas Superstar" list, this heat-loving, drought-tolerant plant thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, making it an excellent choice for warm climates and water-wise landscapes. Once established, Pride of Barbados requires minimal maintenance while producing an abundance of vibrant blooms. In frost-free regions, it grows as a perennial shrub or small tree, while in colder areas it can be grown as a fast-growing annual or die back in winter before returning from the roots in spring. Its spectacular flowers and resilience make Pride of Barbados one of the most rewarding ornamental plants for sunny gardens. The nectar-rich flowers are especially attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds, making this an excellent addition to pollinator and wildlife gardens. 📦Plants are organically grown from seeds that are responsibly hand-harvested from healthy plants. Plants are well-packaged to withstand jostling and temperatures. Because your plant will attract pollinators, it is not treated with pest control or harsh, nonorganic fertilizers that can harm pollinators or wildlife. This means your plant is all natural and may have slight imperfections. However, all plants are inspected prior to shipping to ensure they are healthy and free of pests, disease, and significant imperfections. Purchasers are encouraged to research plant species before purchasing. A great resource for information is Texas Master Gardeners and Texas Agrilife. 🌿 PLANT CHARACTERISTICS Botanical Name: Caesalpinia pulcherrima Family: Fabaceae (Legume/Pea Family) Plant Type: Flowering shrub or small tree; perennial, die-back perennial, or annual depending on climate Mature Height: Commonly about 8–12 feet in warm Texas landscapes; plants can reach approximately 15–20 feet in frost-free tropical conditions Growth Rate: Fast Sun: Full sun for the heaviest flowering; tolerates some partial shade Bloom Season: Summer through fall in climates with winter freezes; potentially much longer in frost-free climates Flowers: Large clusters of brilliant orange-red flowers with yellow highlights and long red stamens Foliage: Fine-textured, fern-like, bipinnately compound leaves Seeds: Seed pods mature from green to brown Maintenance: Low once established 🌎❓NATIVE STATUS: NON-NATIVE / NATIVE-ADAPTIVE Despite its popularity in Texas and the Southwest, Pride of Barbados is not native to Texas or any other U.S. state.
